Throughout July, KL-YES alumni in Zanzibar conducted several individual and group community service activities ranging from English lessons and playground construction to basketball donations. We were lucky enough to receive several photos from the events.
- Alumni, Nasra and Shughaib, continued to teach English to preschool teachers at Zanzibar’s KL-YES Alumni Study Center.
- Through Zanzibar United States Alumni Association (ZAUSAA), alumni assisted in providing basketballs to several teams throughout Zanzibar. The balls were donated by the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania. Volunteers include Omar, Aisha Mohamed, Habib, Shughaib, Nuru, Muna and Aisha Haji.
- The alumni also collaborated with Playground Ideas from Indiana to construct a low cost playground for children at Taufik Preschool in Zanzibar. The work began with the collection and preparation of construction materials which was done by the alumni before the arrival of U.S. volunteers. Yasir, Aisha Haji, Mwanaidi, Muna, Nuru, Omar, Habib, Aisha Mohamed and Msimu all participated by painting the car tires and logs.
