A unique aspect of IRIS is that we strive to support our participants not only while they are in Iowa, but also once they return to their home countries.
One of the program goals is for the students to develop practical action plans that can be implemented when the students return to Africa. After they leave the U.S., IRIS continues to work with the students to apply their leadership skills at home to enhance civil peace and to promote an atmosphere of tolerance and development.
YES alumni have established Peace Clubs in their high schools in Nigeria. Recently in some Nigerian states, alumni learning centers have been established to provide opportunities for youth employment and to bridge the information gap between developing and developed countries.
Alumni groups are also involved with many volunteer service activities in their communities in Nigeria and Tanzania, and IRIS is continually developing new programs which continue to support our alumni.
